Paperworld and Creativeworld 28-31 January 2017

Show report

Paperworld and Creativeworld have consistently proven themselves to be two of the top fairs in the sector worldwide.  The shows took place between the 28-31 January 2017 at Messe Frankfurt Germany. 18 UK companies were supported by the Department for International Trade and British Jewellery & Giftware International at this show with Tradeshow Access Programme funding. Feedback from the TAP supported companies suggest a ROI of £48 per £1 invested by DIT.  Detailed information on the fairs can be found below.

61 companies from the UK exhibited at Paperworld 2017, 7 of these were there with DIT support.  Most of the these TAP supported companies were positive about the experience they had and how it enabled them to open up new market places;

“Paperworld Frankfurt was fantastic launchpad to showcase our products as we were able to meet our current international customers in person and also potential new enquiries worldwide. Without the show we would not have been able to launch in new countries and at the same time source new manufacturers which will help us grow as a business . Really pleased with the event organisation and follow-up.”

1,525 exhibitors from 58 countries (264 Germany, 1,261 outside Germany) were in Frankfurt at the end of January, in comparison to the previous year, there were more German exhibitors present. At the same time, the number of exhibitors from Asia diminished. The reason for this was the move of the 'International Sourcing' product group from Hall 10 to Hall 1, which resulted in less space being available for the national pavilions. “It is important to us to be able to offer retailers a high-quality range of goods. The reorganisation of the product areas in the seven halls at the eastern end of the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre has definitely contributed to that,” says Cordelia von Gymnich, Director of Consumer Goods II, Messe Frankfurt Exhibition.

More than 90percent of the total of 33,558 trade visitors were, according to the visitor survey, satisfied or even extremely satisfied by the range of goods on offer at Paperworld. A striking feature this year was that more trade visitors came to Frankfurt from within Germany. They came to see for themselves the innovations for the modern office and trends in writing materials and school requisites for private and home use and they came to place orders. In all, visitors attended from 143 different countries – 11,609 from Germany and 21,949 from abroad.

Other than Germany, most of the trade visitors came from Italy, Great Britain, France, China, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, the USA and Turkey. There was testimony to strong growth on the international side from Japan, the USA, Argentina and numerous other Latin-American and South-American countries, as well as from Russia and Belarus.

38 companies from the UK exhibited at Creativeworld of those 11 received support through the Department for International Trade.  Overall the British exhibitors were extremely pleased with the business and contacts they made at the show;

“As a company we felt the show was stronger than last year.  The quality of clients we met were relevant to expanding our international business”

Terry Lennon
Craft Consortium

"Creativeworld is arguably the most important international trade show for the papercraft market at the moment so our exhibiting was essential in order to grow the international distribution of our brand.  As well as winning some good direct orders at the show itself we also had a number of promising conversations with key decision-makers that look likely to develop into fruitful new relationships over the coming year."

Creativeworld 2017 can boast the largest number of manufacturers and products in the history of the event. It is not only the 15 percent rise in the total number of 344 exhibitors from 37 countries that has continued to build its role as the sector's leading international trade fair. This fact is also impressively evidenced in the interest shown by the 8,657 trade visitors from 94 countries.

Creativeworld is the world's most important platform for business deals and orders in the creative hobbies, DIY handicrafts and artists' requisites sectors is reflected in the number of international exhibitors who take part. Companies from 37 nations (2016: 30) were represented in Frankfurt, where they came to promote themselves and their new products. Numerous companies take advantage of Creativeworld specifically as a starting point for launching their products on the market.
