Congratulations to the Birmingham Assay Office!

16 January 2012

The British Allied Trades Federation is pleased to announce that the Birmingham Assay Office is the first assay office in the world to be certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). The RCJ have recognised the Birmingham Assay Office as being the first organisation to meet the ethical, human rights, social and environmental standards established by the RJC's member certification system. The Responsible Jewellery Council is an international not-for-profit organisation which aims to reinforce consumer and stakeholder confidence in diamond, gold and platinum group metals jewellery products. A comprehensive audit covered The Assay Office’s diverse range of services, which extended far beyond its statutory duty of assaying and hallmarking. Kay Alexander, chairman of The Assay Office said: “I am really proud of the high standards set by everyone. We believe high ethical standards to be vital to the future of the jewellery, precious metal and gemstone industry and will continue to contribute to this in every way we can.”

Directors and staff at BATF would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Birmingham Assay Office on their well deserved recognition.
