Winner of Presidential Goblet design competition announced

12 February 2018

Winner of the 2017 British Allied Trades Federation Goblet Design Competition, Kine Guvag was presented with her cash prize at the Gift of the Year Awards on Sunday 4th February 2018.

The competition was launched in conjuction with the Birmingham School of Jewellery to provide an opportunity to promote newly qualified designer/makers in the industry. Since 1954 the tenure of each President of the British Allied Trades Federation has been recognised by the addition of a solid silver goblet to our BATF silver collection, one that has been purchased as an off the shelf item.  The BATF has an extensive silverware collection that was instigated to support and showcase craftsmanship and design. This is illustrated in our other pieces, but not so with the goblets. Hence the competition was initiated.

The winning design, produced by Norwegian born Kine, features a modern a-symmetrical design and will be part spun by hand and part manufactured on the lathe. Kine's signature/assay mark will be on the piece and it will be logged in the BATF archives as Kine's piece.

The next goblet design competition will be launched shortly, and it is hoped that the winning design will be announced at the industry's annual charity ball, The Benevolent Society Christmas Ball in December.
